Individuals and families:

  • Advocacy – Future Focus associates are dedicated to ensuring that “every” Canadian living with a disability have full access and a clear understanding as to services available to them.  This is particularly true within the new Canadian communities who have children with disabilities.  ESL clients require specialized approaches when that meet the treatment needs of their children while respecting the cultural difference this unique situation brings.  Accessing services is often an alien concept to many of our ESL clients.  This lack of understanding is rooted in language and cultural beliefs that need to be overcome.  Future Focus associated are qualified professionals with personal understanding of the culture/language and professionally trained in a wide variety of therapeutic modalities.

 

  • Treatment planning – Future Focus supplies consultancy in the development of a wide variety of treatment plans build around the cultural needs and beliefs of an ESL client.  This service is also offered to other professionals needing guidance involving cultural sensitivity within the context of treatment planning and service delivery.

 

  • Service coordination – Future Focus associated work closely with ESL families to coordinate the wide variety of potential therapists involved in the delivery of service for persons with disabilities.  The importance of family involvement in the therapeutic process cannot be under-estimated.  To be fully involved families need to know how the therapy works and why therapists are doing what they do.  Much of this gets lost in the ESL community due to inadequate translation.  Future Focus associated do more than language translation, they translate concepts and modalities that require more then just language understanding.

Corporate and service agencies:

Training programs for developmental and behavioural aides working in the ESL community.  These one day training programs are designed to:

  • Enhance the skills of the traditional worker lacking the cultural understanding.  This training adds to the effectiveness of the worker by allowing them some cultural insight and how that impacts the therapy.

 

  • Assist ESL workers who may need a better understanding of different therapeutic modalities.
